Michigan: Hospital employee in Troy opens fire on co-worker in parking lot

Authorities and officials at Corewell Health Hospital Beaumont in Troy, Mich., confirmed Thursday a shooting on the medical center's grounds that left one health care worker wounded. The suspect has been apprehended and was identified as a worker at the medical center.
Troy Police, along with other agencies, deployed a heavy police presence around the medical center to find the culprit. Meanwhile, the hospital staff barricaded themselves in the medical center as part of their security protocol in case of a shooting.
The wounded man was taken to the emergency room, according to a hospital statement. "We are working with local law enforcement. In the interest of prudence, the hospital is on lockdown," a Corewell Health spokeswoman said.
"One victim is in the emergency department for medical treatment. Patients with scheduled services should not come to the hospital at this time," added the hospital. "Patients can call directly to the department where they were scheduled for service. No further information is available at this time."
The victim is a 25-year-old male who was shot twice in the arm. His medical condition is stable. The shooter fired five shots, some of which also hit the victim's vehicle.
Troy Police have indicated that the shooting is an "isolated" incident, and forces remained on the scene until they found the suspect.
Police say they know the identity of the shooter but declined to release it to the media at this time. After being taken into police custody, it was learned that he is a worker at the hospital and a co-worker of the injured man.
