Maryanne Trump Barry, a former judge and older sister of former President Donald Trump, died Monday at the age of 86. Her cause of death was not revealed. Two sources close to the family told The News York Times that she died at her home on the Upper East Side of Manhattan. One source said she was found early Monday morning.
Maryanne Trump Barry graduated from Mount Holyoke College in 1958. She earned her law degree from Hofstra University School of Law in 1974. Before she was appointed to her position as a federal judge, she practiced law in New Jersey. Her focus was on real estate matters and insurance law.
In 1983, she was appointed by President Ronald Reagan as a judge of the Federal District Court in New Jersey. She was then appointed by President Bill Clinton to the Third Court of Appeals in 1999. Trump Barry retired on February 11, 2019.
"Her retirement came amid an investigation into whether she violated judicial conduct rules by committing tax fraud following reporting from The New York Times that alleged the former president and his siblings utilized tax schemes to inflate their inheritances," CNN reported.
Despite this, after Barry retired, the investigation into Trump Barry was closed. She received an annual retirement salary and was from judicial rebuke. Her lawyer denied the accusations.
