An 84-year-old pro-life volunteer in Michigan was shot in the shoulder while touring a neighborhood in her community to discuss an abortion proposal put on the state ballot for the upcoming November ballot.

The elderly woman was walking around the Lake Odessa area chatting with residents about the vote they would cast on Proposition 3, which would protect access to abortion in the state. And just as she was leaving one of the homes she was attacked by a man who had not been part of her conversation.

Right to Life of Michigan, the elder's volunteer organization, noted:

The 84-year-old victim said he was shot in the shoulder while leaving a residence during a heated conversation, and that the man who shot her was not part of their conversation. The identity or motive of the shooter is unknown.

The woman drove to the Lake Odessa Police Department after being shot. She was then taken to an area hospital, where she was treated and released, still recovering from the gunshot wound.

Michigan State Police told Fox News that the elderly woman was shot after a "verbal altercation while handing out leaflets." Officers are still investigating the incident and the case remains open. The attacker has not yet been identified. For her part, the victim wishes to remain anonymous while the investigation is underway.

Proposal 3:"Reproductive Freedom for All"

"Michigans Right to Vote Initiative is aimed at the election in which the state will vote on Proposal 3," called "Reproductive Freedom for All" on November 8th. Passage of this proposal would ensure legal access to abortion for all Michigan residents.

Chris Gast, a representative of Right to Life of Michigan spoke with Fox News about the incident involving the elderly woman. In addition, he clearly referred to his opposition of the approval of Proposition 3: "We are glad that the victim is recovering, and our volunteers will continue to knock on doors and ask residents to consider their vote -if positive- on Proposition 3."
