Pam Bondi's ouster was celebrated from the other side of Congress. Several of the most renowned figures in the Democratic Party did not hesitate to take aim, after her departure was confirmed, against the attorney general, whom they accused of having tarnished the image of the Department of Justice (DOJ) during the nearly 14 months she held the post.

One of the strongest reactions came from Elizabeth Warren. The Massachusetts senator claimed that Bondi turned the DOJ into a "hotbed of corruption" for different reasons.

"Under AG Pam Bondi, the DOJ became a cesspool of corruption. Bondi will be remembered for blocking the release of the Epstein files, weaponizing the DOJ to go after Trump’s political opponents, and handing out merger approvals as political favors," wrote Warren in her profile on X. "Good riddance."

Taking the same line as Warren was Senate Democratic Party leader Chuck Schumer (New York). "Pam Bondi was the wrong choice from the start. But the rot at the Department of Justice begins and ends with Donald Trump. As long as his focus is on using DOJ as a tool for revenge and not law enforcement, the cover up of the Epstein files, along with the countless other problems at DOJ, will continue," she said.

For his part, Sen. Dick Durbin (Ill.) took aim at President Donald Trump for "instrumentalizing" the DOJ for his "personal benefit."

"Pam Bondi’s legacy will be the weaponization of the world’s preeminent law enforcement agency for Donald Trump’s personal benefit, but apparently even she didn’t go far enough to appease him. Donald Trump wants an unyielding loyalist who will cover up his crimes, prosecute his perceived enemies, and carry out his bidding—even if it means endangering the American people and violating the Constitution," Durbin said. "It’s time for all Americans—my Republican colleagues included—to tell this President to end the charade and nominate an Attorney General whose loyalty is to the American public and the rule of law."

Todd Blanche, interim replacement

After Bondi's dismissal was confirmed, Trump announced his replacement, Todd Blanche, who will serve as attorney general on an interim basis -for the time being-, defended the management of his predecessor, while thanking the president for trusting him for the position.

"Pam Bondi led this Department with strength and conviction and I’m grateful for her leadership and friendship. Thank you to President Trump for the trust and the opportunity to serve as Acting Attorney General," Blanche said, via a message posted on social media.

"We will continue backing the blue, enforcing the law, and doing everything in our power to keep America safe," he added.
