'The Middle East is on a path to peace': Biden joins Democratic praise for Trump after his historic deal with Israel and Hamas
Biden is not the only Democratic figure to praise Trump for what has been achieved between Israel and Hamas. Several prominent Democrats, including former members of his administration, have done so in recent days.

Former President Joe Biden publicly praised President Donald Trump for the historic peace agreements reached with the Israeli government and the Palestinian terrorist organization Hamas, in what appears to mark an endpoint to the war in Gaza. The conflict began on Oct. 7, 2023, when the jihadist group carried out the heinous attack, killing more than 1,000 people and kidnapping 251.
"I am deeply grateful and relieved that this day has come – for the last living 20 hostages who have been through unimaginable hell and are finally reunited with their families and loved ones, and for the civilians in Gaza who have experienced immeasurable loss and will finally get the chance to rebuild their lives. The road to this deal was not easy. My Administration worked relentlessly to bring hostages home, get relief to Palestinian civilians, and end the war. I commend President Trump and his team for their work to get a renewed ceasefire deal over the finish line," Biden said in a lengthy post on his X account.

The former Democratic president ended his message by saying that "Now, with the backing of the United States and the world, the Middle East is on a path to peace that I hope endures and a future for Israelis and Palestinians alike with equal measures of peace, dignity, and safety."
A number of Democratic personalities have also praised Trump
Biden is far from the only Democratic figure to praise Trump for what has been achieved between Israel and Hamas. Several prominent Democrats, including former members of his administration, have done so in recent days.
One of them was his former national security adviser, Jake Sullivan, who told CNN, when asked if Trump deserved credit for the deal: "Of course he does. And I give credit to President Trump, [Steve] Witkoff, [Jared] Kushner and [Secretary of State Marco] Rubio. These are tough jobs." Similarly, Biden's former speechwriter, Jon Meacham, also praised Trump during an interview on MSNBC, in which he assured that ending the war in Gaza "is a victory for President Trump."
Likewise, Senate Democratic Minority Leader Chuck Schumer praised Trump for his historic deal: "Today is a wonderful day. Finally, finally, finally, the last living hostages brutally held by Hamas are home, an immense and overwhelming sigh of relief. I commend the enormous advocacy of the tireless hostage families, President Trump, his administration, and all who helped make this moment happen," Schumer said in a statement.
Similarly, former Democratic President Bill Clinton also commended Trump for his efforts in the Middle East, saying in a statement, "The horrors of the October 7, 2023 attack on Israel, and the conflict they reignited, have resulted in unbearable human loss. It has been hard to watch and nearly impossible to rationalize. I’m grateful that a ceasefire has taken hold, that the last 20 living hostages have been freed, and that desperately needed aid has begun to flow into Gaza. President Trump and his administration, Qatar, and other regional actors deserve great credit for keeping everyone engaged until the agreement was reached."
A turning point in the Middle East
As part of the agreement, the 20 Israeli hostages still alive were released Monday, completing the first phase of the peace deal. On the same day, Israel also freed more than 1,900 Palestinian prisoners to fulfill its part of the agreement.
In a historic speech to the Israeli parliament, the Knesset, Trump urged Israeli leaders to move from war to peace, saying Israel had achieved “all that they can by the force of arms” and expressing optimism about the region’s future.
