Trump criticizes Biden's decision to commute sentences of criminals

The president-elect showed his outrage on social media. "Makes no sense. Relatives and friends are further devastated. They can’t believe this is happening!" he said.

Donald Trump harshly judged Joe Biden for commuting the sentences of dangerous criminals. "Joe Biden just commuted the Death Sentence on 37 of the worst killers in our Country," Trump posted on Truth Social.

"When you hear the acts of each, you won’t believe that he did this," he added. "Makes no sense. Relatives and friends are further devastated. They can’t believe this is happening!" he added.

Biden was determined to act before he leaves the White House on Jan. 20, but the list of pardons will go down in history as one of his most controversial moves, along with the one granted to his son Hunter. The outgoing president has commuted the sentences of 37 prisoners sentenced to death by the federal judiciary out of 40 in total.

Only three were excluded from the measure: one of the terrorists who set off bombs at the Boston Marathon in 2013, a gunman who murdered 11 Jewish worshippers in 2018 and a white supremacist who gunned down nine black parishioners in 2015.

"Make no mistake: I condemn these murderers, grieve for the victims of their despicable acts, and ache for all the families who have suffered unimaginable and irreparable loss," Biden said.

Trump's transition team condemned the commutations on Monday and described the move as "abhorrent" that benefits "some of the world's worst killers."

"President Trump stands for the rule of law, which will return when he is back in the White House after he was elected with a massive mandate from the American people," Trump transition spokesman Steven Cheung said in a statement.
