Biden calls on Democrats not to give up: "Keep the faith"
In his speech, the president called on his colleagues to "stand up," while acknowledging that the party's mood is low.
Joe Biden has very few days left before he has to hand over the keys to the White House to Donald Trump. Meanwhile, the president is rushing his last days in office to take stock of his administration and encourage Democrats to apply a forceful opposition against the policies to be carried out by his successor and try to regain power.
Taking advantage of his last speech at the traditional Christmas reception of the Democratic National Committee (DNC) in Washington, D.C., Biden urged his colleagues to "never give up" and to "keep the faith" when the mood of the party is low after the debacle suffered in the November elections.
"That's the road ahead, to never give up, to keep the faith. To know, that what we're doing matters. I know I'm going to stay engaged. I know Kamala [Harris] and Jill [Biden] and Doug [Emhoff] are gonna as well, and I know you will. We need you badly. The country needs you badly," Biden said.

It was the president himself who, through a phrase said to him by his father, reflected that mood in which the Democratic Party finds itself after the electoral defeat.
"We all get knocked down. My dad would say when you get knocked down, you just got to get up. The measure of a person or a party is how fast they get back up," Biden stressed during his speech.
On the sidelines, the president, who was accompanied by his wife, referred to who has been for the past four years his right-hand man, Kamala Harris. About the vice president, Biden noted that, whatever her future in politics and within the Democratic Party, she will not be abandoned.
"You’re not going anywhere, kid. We aren’t letting you," the president said.
During the holiday reception, Harris, accompanied by her husband, also enjoyed a moment in the spotlight and thanked all Democrats and donors for their involvement during an election campaign that had no positive effect.
"When it mattered most, through the entire campaign, including those 107 days, you all rallied. You rallied. You opened your homes. You reached out to your friends and your family. You put your personal capital and by that I mean your relationships at stake to talk with people, because you care so deeply. Our spirit is not defeated. We are not defeated. Let's be clear about that. We are strong," Harris said.
