Joe Biden will not be joining Kamala Harris tonight. The current president will not attend the event where the Democratic candidate will await the election results.

"Tonight, the president and First Lady will watch election results in the White House residence with longtime aides and senior White House staff," a White House official told the Washington Examiner.

The Democrat is expected to await the election results at a party that is to be held at her alma mater, Howard University, which is less than 2 miles from the presidential mansion.

Throughout the campaign, there has been speculation about tension between the current vice president's staff and Joe Biden's staff.

In reality, the problems have been simmering for a long time, even as Harris herself publicly backed Biden and vehemently denied that he suffered from any mental health problems. From the president's team there was always the threat of replacement by the vice-president in case it was confirmed that the president's psychological state made him unfit for office, and from Biden's advisors there were leaked reports that Harris would obtain worse numbers than the Executive leader in the elections.

The fracture in the relationship between Harris and Biden seems to have deepened when leading figures in the Democratic Party began a campaign for the current president to resign and allow Harris to become the Democratic candidate.

In fact, Biden has been involved in a series of incidents that for many has been a way of showing his displeasure with Harris. For example, the president donned a Trump hat in September. The event occurred just a day after Donald Trump said during the debate that the president "hates" vice president Kamala Harris.

The president also had a brief exchange with a Trump voter who he was going to sign a hat for. When he asked for it, the man joked by asking the president, "You remember your name?"

Biden replied with a humorous comment, "I don't remember my name ... I'm slow."
