The Republican Party of Florida introduced a bill Tuesday to ban abortion after six weeks of pregnancy. The proposal, called SB 300, would only allow abortion in two cases: to save the life of the pregnant woman or in the case of proven rape or incest.

This bill, driven by Republican state legislators Erin Grall and Jenna Persons-Mulicka, was introduced just minutes before Governor Ron DeSantis delivered his State of the State Address.

The Republican initiative has a good chance of getting through; the party has a large majority in both the state Senate and House of Representatives. Last year, Florida banned abortions after 15 weeks of pregnancy.

Kamala Harris: "Extremist leaders".

Following the bill's introduction, Vice President Kamala Harris accused Florida Republicans of "attacking foundations of liberty."

For her part, the newly appointed chairwoman of the Florida Democratic Party, Nikki Fried, called for the Republican initiative not to go forward.
