We had to wait 36 years to see the Top Gun school pilots fly again in theaters. In 1986, the original film directed by Tony Scott and starring Tom Cruise became a cinematic emblem, and not just of its decade.
Some time later, in 2022, the seventh art reciprocated to its fans with its sequel, Top Gun: Maverick, and had one of the best box office receptions in history -exceeding 1.5 billion dollars worldwide- that returned hope to the sector after a turbulent time due to the pandemic. Now, the latest indications indicate that a trilogy will be completed.
Media outlet Puck, reported that it is already preparing to tell a new story. Ehren Kruger, one of the screenwriters of Top Gun: Maverick, would be writing the script for the third film in the franchise, while the production company would once again have Joe Kosinski to direct the installment.
Another objective that is in Paramount Pictures' mind is to have the great architect of the success of Top Gun: Tom Cruise. The actor is currently immersed in the production of the new Mission: Impossible film, the eighth installment of the saga that is scheduled to be released in theaters in 2025. In addition, the production company's intention is for actors Miles Teller (Whiplash, Fantastic Four) and Glen Powell, co-stars of Top Gun: Maverick, to return. What was not discussed for now is the participation of Jennifer Connelly, Maverick's love interest in the second film.
