'Patria y Vida' to receive the Medal of Freedom as an anti-Castro symbol
The Miami-based Latin Songwriters Hall of Fame (LSHOF and with headquarters in Miami) will present awards to Yotuel, Beatriz Luengo, Descember Bueno, Gente de Zona, Maykel Osorbo y El Funky as authors of "Patria y Vida", with the Medal of Freedom on October 13 in South Florida.
The artists will be recognized for the song that became an anthem during the protests against the Castro regime between July 11 and 17, 2021, and which received the Latin Grammy Award for best song of the year.
The Medal of Freedom is one of the new decorations awarded at the La Musa Awards, which celebrates its tenth anniversary.
Protests in Cuba continue
Demonstrations against the Castro regime in July 2021 took place in approximately 50 locations in Cuba, resulting in one death and more than 1,300 people arrested, of which 488 were convicted with unjust sentences.
The repression and inaction of the communist government or the situation of precariousness or lack of food and light last July, a multitude of people from all over the world to take to the streets of Pinar del Río160 kilometers from Havana, to protest against the current Cuban government. Fed up with the dictatorship, these protests have intensified. During the first half of the year, a total of 1,713 demonstrations against the regime were recorded.
