Costa Rica overcomes first loss and beats Japan

The Costa Rican national team still has a chance to reach the round of 16 after defeating the Japanese team 1-0.

This World Cup has been full of surprises. One of them was Costa Rica's brutal 7-0 defeat against Spain. In the other game from Group E, Japan knocked off world powerhouse Germany. The surprises continued in the group, with Costa Rica managing to bounce back and beat Japan 1-0.

Costa Rica started with a back three formation, occasionally sending back two wingers to sure up the outer flanks.The star of the match Joel Campbell, who was all over the field and created numerous chances for his teammates.

One goal decides the game

The first half ended with neither side managing to get a shot on target. Japan's Takuma Asano was subbed on in the second half, which gave his team new life.

Ultimately, Costa Rica was able to have a short memory and overcome its humiliating defeat just days ago. They stood up to Japan and were rewarded in the 80th minute with a goal from Keysher Fuller.
