Bud Light drops out of the top 10 highest rated beers

The brand fell six spots in the ranking after a controversial ad campaign featuring trans TikToker Dylan Mulvaney.

Bud Light is no longer among the top-rated beers in America in YouGov's ranking. According to the polling company, the beer brand that chose to endorse Dylan Mulvaney is ranked 15th among U.S. beers. In the second quarter of 2022, Bud Light was ranked ninth in YouGov's ranking.

YouGov is based on both brand awareness and brand approval. With these two scales, Bud Light obtains a 98% awareness rating, but its approval was just 42%. It is also the worst rated beer, with 36% negative evaluations.

Millennials rate Bud Light the highest at 56%. Approval drops dramatically among Generation X and baby boomer respondents. In terms of gender, more men (47%) than women (38%) like Bud Light.

Bud Light is thus positioned as the best-known beer in America, ahead of Corona and Coors, and even its parent brand, Budweiser. But this consumer awareness is not matched by positive consumer feedback.

Guinness is the top-rated beer in America with a 58% positive rating and a 92% reputation. The Irish stout brand has succeeded in maintaining its marketing strategy and is perceived as a high-quality product.

Behind Guinness is Corona. The brand under the Modelo brewing conglomerate obtained 53% positive ratings and a 97% reputation, the second best position for both criteria. Corona is one of five Hispanic brands that earned a spot in the YouGov ranking. They are Modelo, Corona, Corona Extra, Corona Light and Dos Equis.

In the middle of summer, a key time for light beer consumption, Bud Light's sales figures have not recovered. According to analysis by Bum Williams Consulting, cited by CBS, Bud Light sales fell 28% at the end of June 2023 and compared to the same dates in 2022.

Bud Light's direct competitors, which are Yuengling Lager, Coors Light and Miller Lite all reportedly rose from 16-22% according to the same source.
