An illegal Salvadoran immigrant is arrested, accused of several crimes, including murder of a 2-year-old boy in DC

Nilson Noel Trejo-Granados, 25, is the fifth suspect related to the death of baby Jeremy Poou Cáceres.

A Salvadoran immigrant who has been accused of several crimes was arrested on February 23 in connection with the murder in D.C. of the 2-year-old boy Jeremy Poou Cáceres, who was tragically killed in a crossfire along with his mother at the beginning of the month.

The man in question, Noel Trejo-Granados, 25, is the fifth suspect charged in connection with the crime, and today, it was confirmed that he is an illegal immigrant who already had a deportation order from the United States from a judge in New Jersey.

The Prince George’s County Police Department announced Monday that it has charged the Salvadoran with first- and second-degree murder, among other charges.

Local network Fox 5 reported on Trejo-Granados’ criminal history, citing Baltimore Immigration and Customs Enforcement and Removal Operations spokesman James Covington.

“Nilson Noel Trejo-Granados is an unlawfully present 25-year-old Salvadoran national. On November 7, 2022, a Department of Justice immigration judge in Newark, New Jersey ordered Trejo-Granados’ removal from the United States,” reads the statement from Covington, who gave more details about the suspect.

“The Montgomery County Police Department (MCPD) arrested Trejo-Granados March 21, 2023, and charged him with theft: $100 to under $1,500. Those charges remain pending. U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) lodged an Immigration Detainer on Trejo-Granados,” the spokesperson continued, detailing that the MCPD ultimately refused to honor the retention order, leaving Trejo-Granados free on March 27, 2023.

MCPD subsequently rearrested Trejo-Granados on September 26, 2023, charging him again with theft under $100 and attempted obstruction and hindrance.

“ICE lodged an Immigration Detainer with the MCDC(Montgomery County Detention Center) on Trejo-Granados, September 27, 2023; however, MCDC refused to honor the detainer and released Trejo-Granados from custody October 12, 2023,” Covington stressed.

Finally, the Prince George’s County Police Department arrested Trejo-Granados on February 23, 2024, charging him with first-degree murder, second-degree murder, two counts of first-degree assault, second-degree assault, attempted first-degree murder and attempted second-degree murder for the death of the child Jeremy Poou Cáceres.

So far, in addition to the Salvadoran, the Homicide Unit of the Prince George’s County Police Department has arrested and charged a 15-year-old boy, a 16-year-old boy, and two other men who, according to authorities, drove a stolen vehicle to the crime scene and opened fire.

All are charged as adults and held without bail, Fox 5 reported.
