The Lewiston Police Department continues the intense search for the alleged perpetrator of the mass shooting that has left at least 22 dead and 60 injured in the second most populous city in the state of Maine. Robert R. Card, 40, is the name of the main suspect. According to the agents "he is considered armed and dangerous" and a nationwide alert has already been established to obtain him.
An internal newsletter -shared with several media outlets - revealed that Card has military experience, According to the text, the man is "a trained firearms instructor" and "He is believed to be in the Army Reserve located in Saco, Maine." The document also noted that Card previously reported suffering from mental health disorders. Among them: "Hearing voices and threats to shoot at the National Guard Base in Saco, Maine." It is known that he was admitted to a mental health facility for a period of two weeks during the summer.
Two images from surveillance cameras from the shooting sites were made publicly available by the Androscoggin County Sheriff's Office. In them, the attacker is seen dressed in a beige-brown sweater and holding a rifle as he went to carry out the massacre.

Maine Governor, Janet Mills, posted a message on her X account (formerly Twitter), asking residents to "follow the instructions of authorities":
I am aware and have been informed of the active shooter situation in Lewiston. I urge everyone in the area to follow the instructions of state and local authorities. I will continue to monitor the situation and remain in close contact with public safety officials.
The Police also ask the population to report "if they have knowledge of the whereabouts" of the suspect and city residents are advised to "take shelter" and remain "inside their homes with the doors closed."
