Marks on the cheeks of President Biden's face raised suspicions on Wednesday. As Biden attended to the press on the South Lawn of the White House before boarding Marine One, reporters could not miss the curious prints on the president's skin. Several White House spokespersons then confirmed to the media that these were marks caused by a breathing mask, or CPAP, that the president wears at night.

"Since 2008, the president has disclosed his history of sleep apnea in detailed medical reports," confirmed White House spokesman Andrew Bates. "Last night he used a CPAP machine, which is common for people with that history," the spokesman added in statements reported by the Washington Examiner.

According to official sources, the White House physician suggested that the president use a breathing machine at night to "improve his rest." According to the AP, during Biden's time as vice president, it was already evident that he had a somewhat irregular heartbeat, which raised some concerns.

A CPAP (continuous positive airway pressure) is an air compressor device that generates positive pressure through a tube to keep the airway open. The duct is connected to a mask that must fit properly to the user's nasal passages so that the user continues to breathe as well as possible during sleep. It is used by people who reduce their respiratory pressure too much while resting. It is used to treat sleep apnea and other respiratory conditions.

The latest reports from White House physician Kevin O'Connor continue to describe President Biden as a "healthy, vigorous male in his 80s, fit to successfully perform the duties of the presidency." The last medical intervention that Biden underwent was a root canal, in which he did not undergo general anesthesia. Prior to this, the removal of a skin lump on the chest was reported.

However, O'Connor's reports do not mention sleep apnea, so there is no medical confirmation that the president uses CPAP to treat that condition. President Biden's health is not a matter to be taken lightly. His political opponents, such as Donald Trump, suggested that Biden's health makes him unfit for the presidency. Should he win election for a second term, Biden would be in the White House until his 86th birthday.
