Video: Body camera footage released of officer who shot Allen, Texas shooter

The images show the heroic feat of the officer who was in the parking lot of the Allen Premium Outlets at the moment the attacker begins to execute the mass shooting.

The Allen (Texas) Police Department has made public the footage of the body camera worn by the officer who took down the shooter that went on a mass shooting rampage last May 6 at the Allen Premium Outlets shopping mall in the Texan city.

The footage - five and a half minutes long - was released following a grand jury's decision to rule that the officer's use of force was justified under Texas law. It was also edited to blur the faces of victims and civilians.

The recording shows how the officer - who was on the premises - runs through the parking lot and shouts: "Shots. Shots. We have people running, I think we have a mass shooter. I have a mass shooter on foot," he tells his radio.

Subsequently, the officer follows the direction in which the bullets are heard, locates the assassin and shoots: "I shot him down. I don't hear any shots."

Allen Police Chief Brian Harvey thanked the officer for his courageous work on behalf of the community:

This video shows how quickly a routine interaction with the public became a life or death situation. The officer recognized the danger, ran toward the gunfire and neutralized the threat, and for his actions, the Allen community will be forever grateful.

The attacker's name was Mauricio García, he was 33 years old. He was loaded with three guns (in addition to five others he had in his car). With them, he killed eight people, including two children.
