The vast majority of Americans say the FBI raid on former President Donald Trump's Mar-a-Lago home has motivated them to vote in the November midterm elections, according to a Convention of States Action/Trafalgar Group poll.
The poll reveals that the raid on Trump's home made 70.4% of respondents more motivated to vote in the 2022 election, compared to 21.6% who said it had no major effect on them. Another 8.1% say they are not sure.
Meanwhile, breaking it down by political party we find that more than half of Democrats, 55.2% said the raid on Trump's house increased their motivation to vote. But an even larger number of Republicans, 83.3%, said it will motivate them to head to the polls in November. Seven out of ten independents, 71.7%, said it will also motivate them to vote in November.
Trump's enemies behind the assault
When respondents were asked about the possible culprits in the raid on the former president's house, 47.9% of Americans believe that Trump's political enemies are behind the assault, compared to 39.7% who said it was the impartial justice system. Only 12.4% said they were not sure who was responsible for the assault.
When people were asked according to their political affinities, more than three-quarters of Republicans, 76.7%, believe Trump' s political enemies are behind the raid. Only 14.6% believe it was the impartial justice system and 8.7% are not sure who is to blame. On the Democratic side 11.9% believe the raid is the responsibility of Trump's political enemies. Some 70.5% believe it was the impartial justice system and 17.7% are not sure to whom to attribute the event.
The Convention of States Action/Trafalgar Group poll was conducted among 1,095 likely general election voters and has a margin of error of +/- 2.9 percent.
Support for Trump from Republican ranks
Former President Donald Trump has called FBI raid on his Mar-a-Lago home as "dark times" for the country and notes that the raid is an unprecedented event. The Republicans, for their part, have denounced the use of politics as a weapon after the fact . And, the faithful followers of the ex-president supported him by gathering at the gates of his residence. In videos on social networks, the crowd can be seen waving flags.
