Romeo Nance (age 23) shot himself after law enforcement confronted him. Officers are investigating how the criminal fled Illinois.

Romeo Nance (23 years old), suspected of shooting eight people to death in Chicago, committed suicide on Monday night after being found by law enforcement in Texas.

Police in the city of Joliet, Illinois, reported that the man shot himself around 8:30 p.m. after officers confronted him. Agents are investigating how the criminal moved from Illinois to Texas.

"Worst crime scene I have ever been associated with"

Nance is accused of killing eight people over two consecutive days (Sunday and Monday) and in three different locations in Chicago. The police reported that the victims and the accused knew each other, although they did not detail whether there were motivations for carrying out the massacre.

The first fatality was Toyosi Bakare (28 years old), a man of Nigerian origin who was shot in the head by Nance at his residence. He was rushed to hospital but died due to the severity of his injuries. Police revealed that they found two more bodies in one house, and five more in the other house on Monday. Some of those murdered - they have not yet been identified - were related.

The medical examiner will perform the relevant autopsies to determine the causes of death and how long it had been (prior to the time of being found) that they were murdered. Joliet Police Chief William Evans commented at a press conference:

I have been a police officer for 29 years and this is probably the worst crime scene I have ever been associated with.
