The Department of Defense has spent nearly $42 million on Viagra

Democratic congresswoman Summer Lee questioned the senior director of Defense Pricing and Contracting on his allocation of public funds.

The Department of Defense (DOD) has spent nearly $42 million on Viagra, a drug marketed by Pfizer, this year alone. Democratic Representative Summer Lee shared this figure at a hearing, where she questioned DOD Senior Director of Defense Pricing and Contracting (DPC), John Tenaglia, on his allocation of public funds.

"How much on average does the military spend on Viagra each year?" asked Lee. "I do not have that figure," Tenaglia hesitantly replied. "About $41.6 million," the congresswoman told the senior DOD official.

Lee, who represents the 12th District of Pittsburgh (Pennsylvania), claimed that those funds could be used to repair a couple of bridges back home.
