Taylor Swift made headlines again this Thursday. She announced that her "Eras Tour," will be released in theaters in the United States and Mexico on October 13 so that all her fans can experience this event:
The Eras Tour has been the most meaningful, electric experience of my life so far and I’m overjoyed to tell you that it’ll be coming to the big screen soon 😆 Starting Oct 13th you’ll be able to experience the concert film in theaters in North America! After the announcement, fans rushed to purchase presale tickets. According to Variety, Taylor Swift set a new presale record at the AMC Theatres with $26 million, surpassing "Spider-Man: No Way Home" which, in 2021, grossed $16.9 million from presales.
It's worth mentioning that the amount is not entirely accurate. AMC Theatres is only one of the chains that will show the concert film. Although it is the largest in the United States, data must also be collected from other theaters such as Regal and Cinemark.
'Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour' competes with other blockbusters
The amount is actually much higher. In fact, according to the ticket sales website Fandango, "Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour" is right up there for presale data with movies such as "Avengers: Endgame;" "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" and "Spider-Man: No Way Home," among others. Jerramy Hainline, senior vice president of Fandango Ticketing, told Deadline:
Taylor Swift is giving moviegoing fans and the entire industry the ultimate gift by bringing 'Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour concert film to the big screen. Not only is Taylor Swift’s concert film the best first-day ticket seller of the year on Fandango, but the concert film is performing like the superhero she is and ranking among the best first-day ticket sellers of all time from franchises like Marvel, Star Wars, DC Comics and more.
In fact, Jason Blum, the director of "The Exorcist: Believer," announced that he was moving up his release date by a week so as not to compete with Taylor Swift. His new movie will be available in theaters on October 6, instead of 13th as originally planned:
Look what you made me do.
