After weeks of rumors about the date of her departure, Shakira said goodbye this Sunday to Barcelona, Spain, and arrived in Miami with her two children "in the pursuit of happiness":
I settled in Barcelona to give stability to my children, the same stability that we now seek in another corner of the world with family, friends and the ocean. Today we begin a new chapter in the pursuit of happiness.
The artist had been living in Barcelona since 2011, the year in which her relationship with former Spanish soccer player Gerard Piqué became public.

The Colombian thanked the Spanish public and the city that was her home for ten years, where according to her she learned "that without a doubt friendship is longer than love,” nodding to the turbulent end of her marriage to Piqué:
Thanks to all those who surfed with me so many waves there in Barcelona, the city where I learned that friendship is undoubtedly longer than love. Thank you to everyone there who encouraged me, dried my tears, inspired me and made me grow. Thanks to my Spanish people who have always supported me with their affection and loyalty.
Shakira said goodbye to her fans and the press waiting for her at the Barcelona airport, blowing a kiss in response to all the well wishes that were shouted at her departure.
A move with delays
The move had been delayed several times while waiting to reach an agreement with Piqué on the custody of the two children. Last December, they signed a resolution that determined that the artist will remain in charge of the children on U.S. soil.
The health of the singer's parents also played a role in the delay of her trip, as both live in Barcelona. His father suffered a fall that caused a traumatic brain injury from which he has not fully recovered. However, he can now be transferred to the U.S., so the Colombian did not wait a day longer to leave for her new home.
Shakira will for now live with her children in her mansion located on North Bay Road Drive, the Miami Beach island where Jennifer Lopez and Ricky Martin also live. For a while, the house was on sale for more than $10 million. However, shortly before breaking off her relationship with Piqué, she took it off the market.
