Polls continue to project Trump as the best challenger against Biden in 2024 election

With Ron DeSantis as the nominee, Republicans are projected to lose the presidential race by five percentage points.

The Republican Party has yet to nominate a candidate to face Joe Biden in the 2024 election. However, a recent poll revealed that former President Donald Trump has the best chance of beating the incumbent in the race for the White House. The poll shows that Biden would win with a five-point lead if the challenger is the current Florida Governor Ron DeSantis.

The poll, released by Morning Consult, indicates that Biden's lead over DeSantis increased to 43% to 38%. The data reflects a jump for the Democrat compared to last week, when he only had a 2-point lead over Desantis, 42% to 40%. However, the likelihood of the Republicans winning changes if the candidate is former President Trump.

"DeSantis trails Biden by five percentage points in a hypothetical general election match-up, and hasn't outperformed the incumbent since March. Trump trails Biden by one point, down from a 3-point lead late last month" the poll highlights.

Trump favored to face Biden

Similarly, the poll found that a majority of Republicans would choose Donald Trump to face Joe Biden in the presidential race. Governor DeSantis is the second choice with 39% of potential primary voters.

Trump has strong advantage among Republicans. In fact, a Florida Atlantic University Mainstreet survey detailed that the president is favored among Floridians. "Trump maintains a formidable 20 percent lead over DeSantis among statewide GOP primary voters, with Trump capturing the support of 50 percent of Republican voters compared to DeSantis’ 30 percent," the poll explains.
