Oscars: 'Everything Everywhere All at Once' triumphs as Best Picture

Brendan Fraser and Michelle Yeoh took the top honors as the best actors at the award ceremony.

This Sunday, the 95th edition of the Oscars was held at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences presented the Academy Awards, better known as the Oscars, hosted by the famous American actor, screenwriter, comedian and television producer Jimmy Kimmel.

The winners of the film categories for the 2023 Oscars were as follows:

Best Picture

The award for best film went to Everything Everywhere All at Once. The other nominated productions were: All Quiet on the Western Front, Avatar: The Way of Water, The Banshees of Inisherin, Elvis, The Fabelmans, Tár, Top Gun: Maverick, Triangle of Sadness and Woman Talking.

Best Director

The winners were directors Daniel Kwan and Daniel Sheinert for the film Everything Everywhere All at Once.

Best Actor

The nominees in this category were: Austin Butler in Elvis, Colin Farrell in The Banshees of Inisherin, Paul Mescal in The Aftersun, Bill Nighy in Living, and the winner who was Brendan Fraser for his performance in The Whale.

Best Actress

The Oscar for Best Actress 2023 went to Michelle Yeoh for her role in Everything Everywhere All at Once.

Best Supporting Actor

Brendon Gleeson in The Banshees of Inisherin, Brian Tyree Henry in Causeway, Judd Hirsch in The Fabelmans, Barry Keoghan in The Banshees of Inisherin, Ke Huy Quan in Everything Everywhere All at Once were the nominees for this category, and the award was taken home by Ke Huy Quan.

Best Supporting Actress

The winner for this category was Jamie Lee Curtis with Everything Everywhere All at Once.

Best Original Screenplay

The nominees were: The Banshees of Inisherin, The Fabelmans, Tár, Triangle of Sadness and Everything Everywhere All at Once, and the award went to the latter.

Best adapted screenplay

The 2023 Oscar in this category went to Woman Talking.

Best Animated Film

As the best animated film the award went to Guillermo del Toro's Pinocchio.

Best International Film

All Quiet on the Western Front (Germany), Argentina, 1985 (Argentina), Close (Belgium), EO (Poland), The Quiet Girl (Ireland) were nominated for this category and the winner was All Quiet on the Western Front.

Best Documentary Feature

Nalvany won the 2023 Academy Award of Merit.

Best Documentary Short Film

This award was won by The Elephant Whisperers. Other nominees at the ceremony included Haulout, How do you measure a year?, The Martha Mitchell effect and Stranger at the gate.

Best Short Film

An Irish Goodbye was chosen as the winner in this category.

Best animated short film

The Boy, the Mole, the Fox and the Horse took the award after competing with: The Flying Sailor, Ice Merchants, My Year of Dicks and An Ostrich Told Me the World Is Fake and I Think I Believe It.

Best Soundtrack

The Oscar for Best Original Score went to All Quiet on the Western Front.

Best original song

The artists who received the award were M.M Keeravani and Rahul Sipligunj with the song Naatu Naatu for the film RRR.

Better sound

The contenders for best sound were: All Quiet on the Western Front, Avatar: The Way of Water, The Batman, Elvis and Top Gun: Maverick which won the award.

Best photography

All Quiet on the Western Front was the winner in the best cinematography category.

Best editing

Nominees included The Banshees of Inisherin, Elvis, Tár, Top Gun: Maverick and the winner, Everything Everywhere All at Once.

Best production design

All Quiet on the Western Front won despite competing with other major productions such as Avatar: The Way of Water, Babylon, Elvis and The Fabelmans.

Best Costume Design

For this category, the best costume design was won by Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.

Best hairstyling and make-up

All Quiet on the Western Front, The Batman, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, Elvis and The Whale were the films that were part of this nomination and the winner was The Whale.

Best visual effects

The winning film in this section was Avatar: The Way of Water.
