The NFL's record-breaking year of contracts: Patrick Mahomes becomes the highest paid player in history

It is the fifth best contract extension signed this year. He will be paid $210.6 million between 2023 and 2026.

2023 has been a year of record-breaking contracts in the National Football League (NFL). It all started when Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts signed the best deal in history. Ten days later it was Lamar Jackson's turn from the Baltimore Ravens. In July, Justin Herbert from the Los Angeles Chargers made headlines for his deal and in early September, Joe Burrow from the Cincinnati Bengals signed his historical contract. Now Patrick Mahomes has become the highest-paid player of all time.

The Kansas City Chiefs quarterback has reached an agreement with the franchise to restructure his contract. The NFL announced on its website that the current Super Bowl champion will be paid $210.6 million between 2023 and 2026. It could go up to $218.1 million by the end of 2026.

In 2020, Mahomes became the highest paid by signing a ten-year extension worth $450 million. With this latest restructuring, the quarterback will be paid more than what he had initially agreed upon.

Throughout his career, he has been named Most Valuable Player twice and has won two Super Bowls (LIV and LVII), both with the Chiefs.
