Actress Melissa Barrera will no longer be part of the cast of the horror movie Scream VII. The production company Spyglass dropped her after she posted multiple messages on social media about the war between Israel and Hamas.

Barrera has been sharing content on social media for several weeks. She has made it clear that she does not support Israel. In some of them, she described the Israeli military operation as "genocide and ethnic cleansing."

A spokesperson for Spyglass issued a statement reported by The Hollywood Reporter saying that the company has zero tolerance for antisemitism. "We have zero tolerance for antisemitism or the incitement of hate in any form, including false references to genocide, ethnic cleansing, Holocaust distortion or anything that flagrantly crosses the line into hate speech." The statement was used to justify the franchise's decision.

Barrera had a main role in the latest Scream movies. She managed to perk up the franchise which has had many ups and downs. Production for the newest movie is still in the preliminary stage, so there is still time to find a replacement for Barrera before filming gets started.

Since Barrera was dropped from the new movie, all eyes have been on Jenna Ortega, who played Tara Carpenter in Scream VI. She played the younger sister of Melissa Barrera's character.

Barrera's situation is similar to that of actress Susan Sarandon. Just a few weeks back, she attended a pro-Palestinian demonstration organized in New York. She spoke in front of thousands of people and condemned Israel. She even justified Hamas' attacks on October 7. After this, Sarandon's agency cut ties with her.
