Anthony Williams, 32, was charged with attempted murder for the mass stabbing on a train in eastern England on Saturday. He is due to appear in court in Peterborough on Monday morning.

Williams was also charged with another attempted stabbing murder on Saturday on the London Underground, according to a statement from British Transport Police.

"Our investigation is also looking at other possible linked offences," Deputy Police Commissioner Stuart Cundy said, in remarks picked up by AFP.

"Following the charges authorised by the Crown Prosecution Service I would stress the importance of not saying or publishing anything which might jeopardise or prejudice ongoing criminal proceedings, or the integrity of the investigation," added Suart Cundy

According to the deputy police commissioner, "criminal investigation and support for the victims is a priority for British Transport Police."

The attack, which left ten people injured, occurred on a train that left Doncaster, in northern England, at 18:25 (local and GMT) on Saturday in the direction of London's King's Cross station.

British Transport Police said officers boarded the train and initially arrested two people, although only one of them is considered a suspect in the attack.

Five of the 10 injured were still hospitalized Monday.

Among those who remain hospitalized is a railway company employee, who tried to stop the attacker and whose condition is critical but stable, Transport Minister Heidi Alexander told Times Radio on Monday.

According to the minister, the suspect was not known to the police counter-terrorism services, the security services or the British program for the prevention of terrorist radicalization.

Tracy Easton, of the Crown Prosecution Service, said the investigation had involved "a huge volume of evidence including CCTV" of video footage.

"We know the devastating impact the events on Saturday’s train has had and how the incident shocked the entire country. Our thoughts remain with all those affected," he added.
