Mexico's President Claudia Sheinbaum requested that U.S. authorities confirm whether Griselda Guadalupe Lopez, the ex-wife of Joaquín "El Chapo" Guzmán Loera and mother of Ovidio and Joaquín Guzmán, crossed the U.S. border along with 17 other family members to turn herself in to justice.
"There is no more than what has come out in the notes [...]. That information is already being requested through the Prosecutor's Office," the president said in a media appearance when asked about the situation.

The questions arose after media outlets such as El Universal of Mexico reported that Griselda Guadalupe Lopez Perez, ex-wife of Joaquín Guzmán and mother of Ovidio and Joaquín Guzmán, crossed the border into the United States last week along with 17 other people.
"The U.S. Marshals reported that Griselda, the second wife of 'El Chapo,' crossed on Friday on foot through the San Ysidro checkpoint along with the 17 other people, all family members, and that agents of the service were already waiting for them on the U.S. side," explained El Universal.
In addition, videos were posted on social media that allegedly showed the group of people being received by U.S. authorities.
"Last May 6, El Universal confirmed that Ovidio Guzmán, alias 'El Ratón' and who is being held in Chicago, decided to change his guilty plea, in a sign that he reached an agreement with the U.S. government to collaborate with them," said the Mexican newspaper.
Local media suggested that the situation could be part of an agreement, possibly due to the threat to Ovidio Guzmán's family if he were to reveal important information to U.S. authorities.
