Sudanese army bombs Darfur market, causing 'hundreds' of civilian casualties
According to a collective of Sudanese lawyer activists, the airstrike targeted the town of Tora, in the violent region bordering Chad.

Hundreds of civilians were killed in a Sudanese army bombing of a market in the town of Tora in the Darfur region, Emergency Lawyers, a Sudanese pro-democracy lawyers' collective, claimed Tuesday.
"Sudanese armed forces fighter jets perpetrated a horrific massacre with indiscriminate bombing in the market of Tora, North Darfur, killing hundreds of civilians and severely injuring dozens," it said in a statement.
The collective documents human rights violations since the start of the war in Sudan in April 2023.

Due to the telecommunications outage in the Darfur region, AFP was unable to independently verify the casualty toll.
Since April 2023, Sudan has been embroiled in a war between the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF), led by General Mohamed Hamdane Daglo, and the regular army of General Abdel Fattah al-Burhane.
The vast Darfur region has been the scene of some of the worst atrocities of the war, including barrel bombings in civilian areas, paramilitary attacks on camps for famine-stricken displaced persons, and widespread ethnic violence.
