Captured Ramone Alston, the escaped fugitive convicted of gunning down a one year-old girl
He escaped from prison officials while attending a medical appointment. After several days of searching, he was arrested following an operation involving SWAT agents and several police forces.
Escaped killer Ramone Alston, who escaped from the custody of corrections officers Tuesday while being transported to a medical appointment at a North Carolina hospital, was finally captured this Friday after several days of intense searching and widespread alerts by authorities.
Ramone Alston was arrested shortly before 2 a.m. at a hotel on Cloverleaf Parkway in Kannapolis, North Carolina, following an operation involving FBI SWAT agents from the Charlotte FBI, Kannapolis police and Charlotte-Mecklenburg police, according to a report from the North Carolina Department of Corrections.
Following his arrest was the arrest of Jacobia Crisp, an acquaintance of the escapee who was arrested in Alamance County and charged with a felony count of aiding and abetting a fugitive.
Alston will be charged with a felony count of prison evasion after being transferred to a high-security unit in the state prison system. There he will resume serving his life sentence for first-degree murder of a one-year-old girl and await a court appearance on the escape charges.
The investigation will continue to determine his movements since he escaped Tuesday, the additional accomplices who assisted him and whether he committed any other crimes while on the run.
"I am grateful to our DAC personnel and appreciate the support and efforts of hundreds of local, state and federal law enforcement officials who assisted in the search and investigation that returned Alston safely to custody," said Secretary Todd Ishee. "It has been an incredible collaborative effort by many individuals and agencies."
