Blood Moon
(AFP) Astronomy enthusiasts will be able to witness the unusual phenomenon of the Blood Moon in the early hours of Friday morning over large parts of the American continent, western Europe and Africa.
The Blood Moon or Red Moon occurs when in the sky there is a total lunar eclipse, except that the Earth partially allows the passage of sunlight, which filtering through the atmosphere reddens our satellite (Rayleigh scattering).

Phases of the 'blood moon'
The lunar eclipse will last about six hours, and will start in North America from 01H09 on the East Coast. The total eclipse will only occur between 02H26 and 03H31 local time, according to NASA.
The eclipse will last about six hours.
It is the first to occur since 2022. All that is required is a clear sky, and no special optical equipment is needed, although it is best viewed with binoculars.
