Major League Baseball (MLB) announced the six players vying for the season's Most Valuable Player (MVP) award. The winner will be announced on November 12.
Among the candidates are two Hispanic players, both of whom play in the American League.
The first is the Dominican Junior Caminero, who was instrumental in helping the Tampa Bay Rays win the American League title. The Florida franchise ultimately lost the World Series to the Milwaukee Brewers.
The second Hispanic player in the running for the MLB MVP award this season is the Cuban Yordan Álvarez, who plays for the Houston Astros.
Also in the running is the Japanese player Shohei Ohtani, the current MVP and star of the Los Angeles Dodgers, a National League team.
The other three players who could receive the award are Bobby Witt Jr. of the Kansas City Royals; Pete Crow-Armstrong, of the Chicago Cubs; and Brice Turang, star of the Brewers.
MLB announced the nominees in a press release in which they also listed the names of those in the running for other individual awards.
The 2026 MLB season ended a few days ago. The Brewers won their first-ever World Series by defeating the Rays in the decisive series with an aggregate score of 4-1. Milwaukee won the first three games of the series. In the fourth, Tampa Bay managed to hold on and avoid being swept.
But in Game 5, the Brewers didn't let the opportunity slip away to claim a title that, until then, had been missing from their trophy case, and ended up taking the throne previously held by the Dodgers, winners of the 2025 MLB season.
