Spanish soccer player Jesus De Miguel, a player for CD Tenerife in the second division of Spanish soccer, died on Tuesday after failing to recover from a hard blow he received from an opponent during the match between his team and FC Andorra.

Early this morning, CD Tenerife, a historic Spanish soccer club, confirmed the death of its player. He was 30 years old.

"Heartbroken, with a lump in our throats, and unable to believe this is true, we at CD Tenerife announce the tragic passing," CD Tenerife announced in a statement shared on social media.

"There are no words of comfort; there is absolutely nothing that can ease this overwhelming sadness. We stand with his devastated family, with his loved ones, and with the entire Tenerife community, which today mourns this cruel turn of events. Jesús de Miguel's family is grateful for each and every expression of support received, and also asks, from the bottom of their hearts, for the utmost respect for their privacy during these terrible moments," he added.

The opposing team also extended their condolences.

"With broken hearts and devastated, we wish to send our most sincere condolences to the family of Jesús de Miguel, to all his teammates, friends, and CD Tenerife. May he rest in peace," said FC Andorra.

The incident that ultimately claimed Jesús de Miguel's life occurred this Monday. With just a few minutes left in the match, the soccer player was preparing to control the ball in the middle of the field when Jesus Owono, the goalkeeper for FC Andorra, struck the CD Tenerife player in the chest with his knee. The incident silenced the stadium and forced the referee to end the match early.

Jesús De Miguel collapsed, unconscious, on the field, and given the gravity of the situation, medical personnel rushed to attend to him as quickly as possible. He was quickly carried off the field and taken to a nearby hospital, where he ultimately passed away.
