Venezuela's Jackson Chourio hits home run in Brewers' win over Pirates

Milwaukee is two wins shy of 90 on the season, and are the undisputed leaders of the NL Central division.

The Milwaukee Brewers Milwaukee Brewers defeated the Pittsburgh Pirates 4x1 on Saturday, in a game in which Venezuelan Jackson Chourio connected for a two-run homer in the top of the eighth inning. Chourio, 21, is batting fora .351 average in his last 15 games with three home runs, 20 hits and nine RBIs.

With the victory at PNC Park, in Pittsburgh, Milwaukee remains two wins away from 90 on the season, and is the undisputed leader of the Central division in the National League.

In another major league result of the day, the Yankees defeated the Toronto Blue Jays 3x1 with a run driven in by Dominican Jasson Dominguez. Dominguez, 22 and in his third major league season, has 140 games in the majors.

Dominican Luis Gil (3-1) earned his third win of the season with the Mules after pitching six innings in which he allowed three hits and one run with one base on balls.

The Yankees improve their record to 79 wins and 63 losses and are in first place in the American League wild card standings.

Torres reaches 121 hits with Tigers

Meanwhile, Venezuela's Gleyber Torres hit his 15th home run of the season in the Detroit Tigers' 6x0 victory over the Chicago White Sox.

In his first season with the Tigers, Torres has 121 hits and is nine shy of 1,000 in the majors.

Venezuelan Martin Perez (1-4) was the starter for the White Sox and suffered his fourth loss of the season by allowing six runs in four innings.

The Philadelphia Phillies won 4x2 against the Miami Marlins, in a game in which Dominican Jhoan Durán earned his 27th save of the season.

Two former teammates in Miami faced each other on the mound. VenezuelanJesús Luzardo(13-6) recorded eight strikeouts in his 13th win for the Phillies, while Dominican Sandy Alcántara (8-12) suffered his 12th loss.

Alcantara, 30 and a Cy Young Pitching Award winner in 2022, became the second pitcher in Marlins history to reach 900 strikeouts.

Dodgers' fifth straight loss

The Los Angeles Dodgers suffered their fifth straight loss as they fell 4x3 to the Baltimore Orioles on a night when Yoshinobu Yamamoto came within one out of recording a no-hitter.

Jackson Holliday broke up a masterful performance by the 27-year-old Japanese and a few minutes later and with the bases loaded, it was Puerto Rican Emmanuel Rivera who defined the game with a two-run RBI.

Blake Treinen and Tanner Scott came on in relief for Los Angeles and both went without recording an out and allowed three runs, all in the bottom of the ninth inning and with two outs on the board.

Dominican Fernando Tatis Jr. hit his 20th home run of the season in the San Diego Padres' 10x8 victory over the Colorado Rockies.

Tatis Jr. the 26-year-old completed his third season with at least 20 home runs and 20 stolen bases.

"I'm lucky to stay healthy and be able to help my team, I feel very proud," Tatis Jr. said after the game in remarks picked up by AFP.

Yordan Álvarez is still going strong after 100 games out this season

The Houston Astros scored eight runs between the eighth and ninth innings in an 11x0 victory over the Texas Rangers.

Cuban Yordan Alvarez finished the game with three hits, including his sixth home run of the season.

Álvarez, who missed 100 games this season, is living his best moment and hitting .533 in the last seven games, with 16 hits in 30 at-bats.

Meanwhile, Dominican Julio Rodríguez hit a pair of home runs in the 10x2 victory of the Seattle Mariners over the Atlanta Braves.

Rodriguez, 24, reached 30 homers for the second time in his four seasons in the majors.
