American George Springer and Venezuelan Andres Gimenez combined to drive in 10 runs as the Toronto Blue Jays crushed the New York Yankees 12–5 in Major League Baseball on Tuesday.
Veteran George Springer was the undisputed star at Rogers Centre, blasting two home runs — including a grand slam — and driving in seven runs.
The Yankees, who had already fallen 5–4 in Monday’s series opener in Toronto, struck first again with a first-inning single by Dominican Jasson Domínguez that drove in Aaron Judge and Paul Goldschmidt.
In the fourth inning, Springer kicked off his power display with a solo home run, followed by Giménez’s three-run shot.
Springer then topped Giménez’s at-bat by hitting a four-run grand slam in the seventh inning, sealing the Blue Jays’ home victory.
With two wins already in this four-game series, the Blue Jays are off to a strong start. A victory on Wednesday would tie Toronto with the Yankees atop the American League East division.
In other action on Tuesday, with four games postponed due to rain, the Texas Rangers defeated the Baltimore Orioles 10–2, led by Adolis García.
The Cuban outfielder collected three hits and drove in four runs, while young Mexican Alejandro Osuna made a mark on his career with a two-run home run in the fifth inning.
On the other side, Dominican Willy Adames hit a home run in the second inning for the San Francisco Giants against the Arizona Diamondbacks.
The D-backs responded in front of their home crowd, with Cuban Lourdes Gurriel Jr. contributing a home run, and cruised to an 8–2 victory.
