Former gymnast Mary Lou Retton has been admitted to a Texas hospital due to pneumonia. Her daughter McKenna Kelley reported that her mother suffers from "a very rare form" of the disease that prevents her from "breathing on her own." She fears for her life.

Kelley posted a story on Instagram with a fundraising campaign so Retton, 55, can afford treatment. She does not have medical insurance.

Retton was inducted into the Artistic Gymnastics Hall of Fame in 1997. At the 1984 Los Angeles Olympic Games, she won one gold, two silver and two bronze medals.

She lives in Texas and has four children.
