Hispanic community honored at the 2025 National Book Awards
With the English version of her work "Las Niñas del Naranjel," Argentine writer Gabriela Cabezón Cámara was recognized in the category of Translated Literature.

Hispanic journalist and writer Gabriela Cabezón Cámara was honored at the 2025 National Book Awards gala for her work "Las Niñas del Naranjel," translated into English by Robin Myers as "We Are the Green and Trembling."
Specifically, Cabezón Cámara, born in the town of San Isidro, Argentina, in November 1968, won the recognition in the category of Translated Literature.
On stage, the writer dedicated a few words to the Argentines and showed her gratitude to the organizers of the awards and to her editor, Ana Laura Pérez.
She was accompanied by Myers, who translated the words spoken by Cabezón Cámara from the stage and with whom the Argentine writer will share the $10,000 prize money she has received for this award.
In other categories, Rabih Alameddine won the prize for best fiction novel for "The True True Story of Raja the Gullible (and His Mother)," while Omar El Akkad received the best nonfiction novel award for "One Day, Everyone Will Always Have Been Against This."
Patricia Smith won the award for best book of poetry for "The Intentions of Thunder: New and Selected Poems," while Daniel Nayeri took the prize for best young people's literature for "The Teacher of Nomad Land: A World War II Story."
