After remaining in critical condition for several days, a former Trump Administration official died this Saturday after being shot in Washington, D.C., during a terrible wave of car thefts that ended in the early hours of last Tuesday.

This is Mike Gill, a well-known Republican who served as chief operating officer of the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) between 2016 and 2019.

Gill's wife, Kristina, reported the news of her husband's death to FOX 5 D.C.

"It is with deep sadness that I wish to inform the community of the passing of my husband, Mike Gill," Kristina wrote. "His sudden departure from him has left a void in our lives that can never be filled."

"In this time of grief, we are grateful for the outpouring of love and support from family, friends and the community, and we extend our sincere thanks to everyone who reached out to offer condolences and help."

The tragic incident

According to the Daily Wire, Gill had been taken to a hospital where he fought for his life after being shot while picking up his wife a few blocks from the White House on K Street in downtown D.C. at 5:45 p.m. on Monday.

"We can confirm that Mike Gill was the victim of the shooting at the 900 block of K Street Northwest on Monday evening and is in critical condition. Out of respect for the family, we have nothing additional to add at this time," said Gill family spokesperson Erica Richardson.

The perpetrator of the attempted murder against Gill died early Tuesday at the hands of police after he tried to steal four vehicles in Washington, D.C., and nearby Maryland suburbs.

Law enforcement officials explained that the perpetrator opened fire on two police patrol cars, leaving two people injured, one of them Gill, and killing another driver. All this happened in a period of 10 hours until police took down the shooter.
