The Philadelphia Metro witnessed a tragic scene on Thursday night. It all started with a verbal argument between two men, which ended with one of them pushing the other onto the tracks, where he was immediately run over by the train that was arriving at the station. The victim lost his life instantly, and the video went viral on social media.

According to NBC 10, the altercation took place on the SEPTA platform of the Market-Frankford line at 34th and Market streets, west of the city, around 4:30 p.m.

As seen in the video, captured by a witness, the victim was asking the other man to return a lighter that he had supposedly stolen. He grabbed him by his clothes while he asked him again and again to return it.

Immediately afterwards, the restrained man, until that moment motionless, began to counterattack and hit the other man, who fell to the tracks as a result of the skirmish. Seconds later, the train arrived and ended his life.

As for the aggressor, he tried to escape by taking that same train, but was detained at the next station by authorities.

"Looked like, appeared to be some type of physical altercation. We don't know exactly what took place prior to that to initiate this, but it's being investigated at this point," Philadelphia Police Inspector Kpana Massaquoi told NBC10.

Per local reporter Anthony Hennen, "The death at a SEPTA station today, from what appears to be a scuffle over a lighter, shows how crucial it is to ruthlessly enforce quality-of-life rules."

This is a developing story.
