Kevin Spacey is the latest victim of Me Too accusations to be acquitted. In the court of public opinion, the presumption of innocence was not respected, but rather he was deemed the culprit for acts that, now, the courts have decided to judge him as not guilty. Those who accused him soon received the approval of high-profile social movements such as the famous Me Too movement, which arose to denounce sexual assaults by men against women or against other men, as in the case of Spacey.

As a result of these accusations, the actor lost leading roles such as in the series “House of Cards.” In fact, he had to compensate its producers with some $31 million. All this took place before he was found not guilty.

After the resolution of the Kevin Spacey case, the movement’s quickness to judge was exposed, losing credibility. But this is not the only case in which the accused ended up being ruled innocent.

Johnny Depp

The “Pirates of the Caribbean” saga star's brief marriage to Amber Heard had more problems than moments of joy. The actress sued him for a physical assault that allegedly occurred in 2016. A year later, she withdrew it although, not content, she was back at it again in 2018 when she published an op-ed in The Washington Post in which she asserted that she was "a public figure who represents domestic abuse." Despite divorcing her, Depp took the matter personally and countersued her for defamation. A court battle that ended in late 2022 determined that Heard had to pay her ex-husband $1 million. She complied and, after that, escaped the Hollywood media spotlight to settle in Spain.

Apart from the accusations, court visits and so on, the star of “Edward Scissorhands” and “Donnie Brasco” lost millions of dollars in film contracts. The producers of the “Pirates of the Caribbean” and “Fantastic Beasts” sagas decided to drop Depp long before the courts ruled in his favor.

Benjamin Mendy

For many, the name Benjamin Mendy may not ring a bell, but he is another of the men who suffered the consequences for allegations of sex crimes that turned out never to have happened.

The soccer player, a 2018 World Cup champion with the French national team, was accused of committing sexual assault and rape against several women, one of whom was a minor, in Manchester, U.K., when he played with Manchester City. While the investigation progressed, Mendy spent some time in a British prison. In fact, the club terminated his contract. He always maintained that he was innocent, even though he was accused of being "a sexual predator," and the whole process would put an end to his professional career.

In mid-July 2023, the case took a complete turnaround, and Mendy was acquitted of all charges brought against him. That same week, he signed a new professional contract with FC Lorient of the French first division to continue a soccer career that the woke mob tried to destroy.

Woody Allen

The director of “Manhattan,” “Match Point” and “Midnight in Paris” was accused by one of his adopted daughters, the writer Dylan Farrow, of having sexually abused her in 1993 when she was only 7 years old.

A year later, an investigation by medical examiners from the Yale-New Haven Hospital Child Sexual Abuse Clinic determined that Dylan was not abused. The case was then closed by authorities and Woody Allen was cleared.

Three decades later, the case is still in the media spotlight. At the time of the accusation, the Me Too movement had not yet been born. Even so, years later, supporters of the movement took advantage and decided to support Farrow, who was determined to ensure that she suffered sexual assaults by her adoptive father.

Morgan Freeman

Winner of an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor for “Million Dollar Baby,” Morgan Freeman was the victim of a false accusation about alleged sex crimes.

In 2018, an assistant on the film “Going In Style” told CNN that Freeman "subjected her to unwanted touching and comments about her figure and dress on an almost daily basis." The worker went so far as to claim that the actor "was trying to lift my skirt and asking me if I was wearing underwear." After that accusation, many others followed. Specifically, 15 more people tried to incriminate him.

But his case never went to court. And the accusations eventually disappeared. In fact, it was even said that his case was the result of journalistic manipulation, as reported by the Spanish media outlet El Mundo.
