Cash App founder stabbed to death in San Francisco

Police have not confirmed his identity, but Bob Lee's friends have said goodbye to him via social media.

Bob Lee, founder of Cash App, was murdered last Tuesday in San Francisco, KPIX reports. San Francisco Police are investigating a stabbing that occurred early Tuesday morning on Main Street in the city’s Rincon Hill neighborhood. The victim was transported to the hospital where he died despite medical efforts. At the moment, no one has been arrested, and officers have only confirmed that the deceased is a 43-year-old man.

Lee's acquaintances assured KPIX that the victim of the incident is the tech entrepreneur, who was in San Francisco on vacation. Following the news, his loved ones have taken to social media to bid him farewell. One of them is the founder of the MobileCoin cryptocurrency, Joshua Goldbard:

I will never forget Bob. There will never be anyone quite like him. As a lifelong Bay Area resident I have more questions than answers tonight. I don't know how to fix what's wrong, but I know that something isn’t working in our grey city. Bob left this world too soon.

The CEO of Figma, a design platform, recalled his first meeting with Lee and the support Lee gave him when he launched his company.

So sad to hear of [Lee’s] untimely passing. I first met him in summer 2006 — he didn't care that I was only 14 and we talked tech / geeked out about programming. We remained connected over the years and he was an early supporter of Figma. It's so hard to believe he is gone.

"I’ve been friends with [Lee] for 15 years. He was one of the best humans I’ve ever met," tweeted TechCrunch founder Michael Arrington. "I'm so glad we were able to spend time together recently. RIP. I hate what San Francisco has become."

In addition to founding the mobile payment site Cash App, Lee was an advisor to start-ups and an angel investor. He previously worked at Google, AT&T and D'Arcy, among others.
