On Thursday, President Donald Trump criticized Thursday the growing number of federal holidays in the United States, warning that keeping businesses closed during these days is costing the country "billions of dollars."

"Too many non-working holidays in America. It is costing our Country $BILLIONS OF DOLLARS to keep all of these businesses closed," the president wrote in a post on Truth Social, coinciding with the commemoration of Juneteenth, the most recent holiday on the national calendar.

Trump also claimed that workers don't want these days off. "The workers don’t want it either," he added.

Juneteenth: The holiday created by Biden

Juneteenth, celebrated every June 19, was established as a federal holiday in 2021 under President Joe Biden's administration to commemorate the freedom of Black Americans who had been enslaved. By law, government employees receive the day off with pay on federal holidays.

Trump warned that the number of holidays is growing at a rate that he said could become unsustainable for the economy and the functioning of the country. In that sense, he expressed his concern with a direct message on Truth Social: "Soon we’ll end up having a holiday for every once working day of the year. It must change if we are going to, MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!" he wrote Thursday.

The president opted not to get involved in Juneteenth-related events or celebrations, unlike Biden, who attended a commemorative event in Galveston, Texas.
