DeSantis against illegal immigration in Florida: driver's licenses of undocumented immigrants will no longer be valid in the Sunshine State
"Someone who is in our country illegally and has violated our laws should not possess a government-issued ID."
Ron DeSantis, Governor of Florida and Republican candidate for the 2024 presidential election announced that certain driver’s licenses granted by other states to illegal immigrants will no longer be accepted.
The governor explained that a new list published by the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles restricts those licenses issued exclusively to undocumented immigrants. This restriction is part of immigration legislation signed by DeSantis earlier this year which went into effect on the first day of this month.
Prohibited licenses
Connecticut licenses that say “Not For Federal Identification” will also not be allowed, nor will Delaware licenses that indicate they are not valid as identification or that say “Driving Privilege Only.”
Also prohibited in Florida are Hawaii licenses that state that their purpose is limited or that they are not valid for official federal purposes.
The same goes for Rhode Island licenses with limitations and Vermont licenses that state that it is for driving only and not for identification purposes.
The Florida government’s statement declares that anyone who presents any driver’s licenses that are no longer valid in the state of Florida will be subject to the penalties provided for in Florida Statute Section 322.03.
“Someone who is in our country illegally and has violated our laws should not possess a government-issued ID which allows them access to state-funded services and other privileges afforded to lawful residents,” DeSantis said, stressing that although the Biden Administration continues to shirk its responsibility to secure the nation’s border, Florida will focus on upholding the rule of law.
“Even if the federal government refuses, Florida will act decisively to protect our citizens, our state, and our country,” he added.
