Genesis, highest paid entertainers of 2022
The Phil Collins-led band pocketed $230 million from their recent tour and the sale of their music rights.
On March 4, 2020, the legendary band Genesis announced that they were returning to the stage with The Last Domino? tour, which originally had to be postponed due to the pandemic. The tour began in September 2021, with concerts around the world. The group once again featured Phil Collins on vocals, Tony Banks on the keyboard, Mike Rutherford on guitar and Nic Collins, Phil Collins’ son, on the drums. The Last Domino? tour ended in March 2022 in London (United Kingdom). The tour propelled the band to the number one spot for highest paid entertainers in the world in 2022 with $230 million.
Forbes magazine published the well-known ranking with the band from Surrey (UK) in first place, succeeding film director Peter Jackson. They were able to top the list due to the money they earned from selling $300 million worth of music rights in September last year. Apart from numerous concerts, another source of income came from their music recordings.
Sting and Tyler Perry
In second place is Sting. The lead singer of the legendary group The Police pocketed $210 million in 2022. His earnings came from the sale of his entire music catalog to Universal Music Group in February of last year. The deal with the production company included all of his repertoire as a solo singer as well as his songs with The Police.
Actor, comedian, and filmmaker Tyler Perry closes out the podium after having made $175 million last year. His income came from the numerous film and television productions he creates and produces. One example is that of his hit sitcom Tyler Perry's House of Payne.
'South Park,’ 'The Simpsons'
Trey Parker and Matt Stone placed fourth. The creators of the animated series South Park earned $160 million after signing a deal with HBO Max. In addition, they have a contract with Paramount that will make them $965 million over six years.
Another successful animated series like The Simpsons is guaranteed to be at the top of the ranking. Its creators, James L. Brooks and Matt Groening, made a profit of $105 million, thanks in part to migrating all 30 seasons to Disney+.
The second actor to make the list is Brad Pitt. The artist pocketed $100 million after producing Blonde and starring in three blockbuster films: Bullet Train, Babylon and The Lost City.
They were followed by Rolling Stones ($98 million), James Cameron ($95 million) and Taylor Swift ($92 million). Puerto Rican singer Bad Bunny closes out the list with at $88 million.
