Texas Attorney General, Ken Paxton announced the arrest of several convicted felons accused of voting illegally in the midterms, according to the statement from his office.
These arrests mark the latest action by the Electoral Integrity Unit, which was created specifically to investigate and prosecute election crimes that could compromise the legitimacy of elections in The Lone Star State.
Citizen complaint and launch of the investigation
The case began last week when a citizen reported that individuals with prior convictions, whether they were incarcerated, on parole or on probation, had cast their ballots in Harris County.
The complainant provided information from open sources to support the allegation. Members of the Electoral Integrity Unit immediately opened an investigation and began gathering evidence of possible violations of the Texas Election Code.
Verification of identities and criminal status
Analysts from the unit verified the individuals' identities, reviewed their voter registration records and examined whether they had voted in the 2026 midterm elections. Subsequently, investigators referred the identified individuals to the Texas Department of Criminal Justice to verify their status within the criminal justice system.
So far, the agency has confirmed that several of those involved were on probation at the time they cast their ballots, which disqualifies them from participating in elections under state law.

Execution of arrest warrants
On Friday, arrest warrants were issued in Montgomery County against the individuals identified so far in the investigation. Agents from the Attorney General's Office proceeded to arrest them.
The office has indicated that it will continue to investigate other reports of illegal voting and that it remains committed to ensuring that the midterms are conducted freely and fairly.
