Eagle Pass, Texas, declares a state of emergency due to the impressive arrival of 11,000 undocumented migrants in recent weeks

This wave of immigrants in just a week and a half is the largest since the 15,000 Haitians who arrived in the neighboring city of Del Río in 2021.

An impressive wave of 11,000 undocumented migrants crossed the border and entered the small city of Eagle Pass, Texas, which has been forced to declare a state of emergency after being completely overwhelmed.

The city's mayor, Democrat Rolando Salinas, declared that an unprecedented wave of 4,000 migrants crossed the border this Wednesday, which adds to the 2,500 people who arrived in Eagle Pass on Monday, and who also join the approximately 7,200 undocumented immigrants who were detained the previous week.

To understand the severity of the situation, the wave of 11,000 migrants, most of them from Venezuela, represents almost half of the population of Eagle Pass, which is about 29,000 inhabitants according to the last census.

Salinas said Mission Border Hope, the only migrant shelter in Eagle Pass, was absolutely overwhelmed.

"One of the situations is that a lot of these [migrants], they’re single males and they don’t want to listen to instructions and they’re leaving the facility," the mayor said. "Not all of these people come in peace."

This wave of migrants in just a week and a half is the largest since the 15,000 Haitian immigrants who arrived in the neighboring city of Del Río in 2021.

That wave of undocumented migrants has generated a severe humanitarian crisis and everything indicates that Eagle Pass is going down the same path.

According to Salinas, the large immigration arrival is taking a toll on the city's local resources, including the police and fire department.

The images on X (formerly Twitter) of the wave of migrants have generated multiple criticisms against Joe Biden's management.

“It’s a total free-for-all in Eagle Pass right now. Mass illegal crossing taking place for over an hour and a half. Almost 2 years to the day we saw 15,000+ Haitians under the bridge in Del Rio, we now have thousands of predominantly Venezuelans gathering under Eagle Pass bridge,” wrote Fox News border reporter Bill Melugin.

When Melugin asked the hundreds of migrants crossing on foot, most shouted "Venezuela!"

And another migrant added: "Because of a dictatorship."

Reporter Sara Carter, with extensive experience covering border issues, shared a similar message. “My friend John who lives near Eagle Pass just sent me this from today. I’ve covered the border for roughly 20 years and it’s never been as bad as it has been under the Biden admin. This is Biden’s policy-this is absolutely a dereliction of of duty, Nat Sec, humanitarian disaster.”

The governor of Texas, Greg Abbott, denounced that the Biden Administration, amid of the flood of immigrants, ordered to cut the razor wire placed in Eagle Pass, making it easier for immigrants to access the country.
