Bill Hayes, star of Days of our lives, died "peacefully" at the age of 98. The causes of death of the actor, whose last appearance in the longest series in history (59 years on the air) occurred less than a month ago (December 22, 2023), have not been made public, although a statement ensures that he died surrounded by his entire family, including his wife, Susan Seaforth Hayes, who also played his partner in fiction.

More than 2,100 appearances in the series

In a statement, collected by CNN, the program confirmed the news and paid tribute to one of the actors who participated in the series the most times (2,100).

It is with a heavy heart that we share the passing of our beloved Bill Hayes. One of the longest running characters on Days of our Lives, Bill originated the role of ‘Doug Williams’ in 1970 and portrayed him continuously throughout his life. He and his wife, Susan Seaforth-Hayes, remained the foundation of the Williams-Horton family spanning more than 50 years.

Hayes, a singer and dancer, portrayed Doug Williams on the series since 1970. He met Susan Seaforth on the set, and would end up marrying her in 1974. Their characters married in fiction two years later. In addition to several Daytime Emmy nominations as individuals, the couple won the award in 2018 for their professional career.

Hayes' career, however, began in 1949 , when she starred in Olsen and Johnson's Fireball Fun-for-All. He later participated in Sid Caesar's Your Show of Shows.
