Just Stop Oil, the organization behind the protest, explained in a series of tweets that they had previously met with the organizers of last Saturday's event to ask them to publicly renounce the new oil and gas licenses.
In the face of the refusal, Just Stop Oil decided to protest in front of the Coca-Cola float, a company it describes as "the world's biggest plastic polluter and who have been accused of numerous human rights abuses." It also accused the organizers of allowing "destructive industries" to take advantage of the Pride march to "pinkwash themselves."
🛢 The LGBTQ+ supporters of Just Stop Oil have taken action against Pride in London today, because the organisation is working with industries complicit in worsening the climate crisis.
👉 Pride in London has failed to address and take responsibility for these relationships.
