Trump holds Pelosi accountable for Jan. 6: She "was in charge of security and turned down 10,000 soldiers"

The former president also pointed out that several pieces of evidence about Sen. Pelosi’s alleged responsibility at the Capitol riot were destroyed.

Former U.S. President Donald Trump said Sunday on "Meet the Press" that Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) was primarily responsible for the events of Jan. 6, when hundreds of protesters stormed the ground of the Capitol in Washington, D.C.

"Nancy Pelosi was in charge of security. She turned down 10,000 soldiers. If she didn’t turn down the soldiers, you wouldn’t have had Jan. 6," Trump said during the conversation, his first with NBC News interview since leaving the White House.

During the conversation, Trump did not comment on whether or not he refused to call the military or authorities throughout that day, but he did comment that he "behaved well" and that the onus should be on the former Speaker of the House for allegedly turning away soldiers.

In making this argument, Walker questioned Trump, telling him that Pelosi did not have the authority that he did as commander-in-chief.

"I understand that the police testified against her, the chief very strongly against her, the Capitol police, they're great people," Trump retorted. "They testified against her, and they burned all the evidence. Okay? They burned all the evidence. They destroyed all the evidence about Nancy Pelosi."

Likewise, former President Trump questioned the U.S. Congress January 6 Committee for not subpoenaing Pelosi during its inquiries.

Rep. Pelosi responded to Trump's comments during an interview with MSNBC on Sunday.

She asserted that the events of Jan. 6 are an embarrassment to the GOP.

"The former occupant of the White House has always been about projection. He knows he's responsible for that, so he projects it onto others... shame on him," Pelosi said.
