Gavin Newsom and other California officials face a lawsuit over alleged antisemitic discrimination. The text was presented in late January by Jeffrey Magram, a retired brigadier general, who alleges that he worked in a hostile environment for Jews for more than two years and that the governor “ignored” the situation.
Magram was fired in January 2023 because he was accused of using troops to carry out personal errands, such as taking his mother shopping. However, the former officer assures that the real reasons behind his dismissal have to do with his Jewish background.
According to the lawsuit, Magram’s former superior, Major General (MG) Matthew Beevers, who now serves as adjutant general of the California Military Department, was responsible for creating the aforementioned antisemitic work environment. According to the text, he was the one who “discriminated against Magram by harassing and wrongfully terminating Magram because of Magram’s Jewish faith.”
Of course, Magram complained about his behavior, and he states that grievances were also filed by at least one other superior and that Newsom’s office received complaints at least six times. So, according to the text, the reason for his dismissal was precisely this attempt to complain about Beevers’ comments. Among these, he mentioned, “How Jewish can you be?” was blurted out when another member of the Jewish service tried to get a military discount on a vehicle.
He noted that the California governor’s office also ignored other similar criticisms against Beevers.
“I want to make sure this doesn’t happen again”
The former officer spoke to Fox News about the case and accused Newsom of “ignoring the many attempts made to correct this situation.”
“I am extremely proud of my more than 37 years of service to California and this great nation, but I still have serious concerns for the welfare of the service members and civilians that currently serve in the Department. MG Beevers mounted an unprecedented defamatory campaign against me, and it was supported by the Governor,” Magram began.
“I want to make sure this never happens again. MG Beevers’ actions were disturbingly aggressive and unexplainable, and he needs to be held accountable. It’s shocking that Governor Newsom disregarded the many attempts made to correct this situation and appointed MG Beevers permanently as the Adjutant General,” he stated.
